SUBWAY LINES: HOME PAGE:

There was a time when the train moved away from the Broadway route and used Sixth Ave instead as a result of the Manhattan bridge troubles of the 1980s and 1990s. The train was placed under Sixth Ave on 12/12/1988 and changed to the orange bullet to 57th street. On 9/1989, the line was extended to 207th street temporarily. On 10/30/1989, the was placed into the new subway they built under 63rd street to a new station called Queensbridge. Additionally, the train went to Queensbridge during the evening hours in 1990, which left in 1997, and then came back on 12/17/2001. Also, there was a yellow B train from Broadway on weekends 10/29/1989 - 10/29/1990 and an orange weekday evenings to Queensbridge 10/29/1990 - 1998.

Due to Manhattan bridge troubles again, the train was placed back on Broadway on 4/30/1995. Then it came back to the Sixth Ave route to 57th street on 11/12/1995, along with a temporary shuttle called the train every twenty minutes from 57th street to Queensbridge between 2/22/1998 - 5/22/1999. Finally, the came back to Broadway for good on 7/22/2001 between 57th street and Brighton Beach. On 5/23/2004 it was extended to Stillwell Ave after this terminal was rebuilt. On 6/25/2010, the train extended to the Astoria el from Stillwell Ave to Ditmars Blvd phasing out the train. But it came back 11/7/2016 serving the Astoria el again once the new Second Ave subway 'finally' opened extending the through the 63rd street tunnel on 1/1/2017 to Second Ave/96th street. The Brighton line has been seen in movies like "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and tons of other Coney Island movies.
